Environment & Climate

India's environment and climate sector is governed primarily by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and is shaped by India's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. Policy direction focuses on achieving net-zero emissions by 2070, expanding forest cover, reducing emissions intensity of GDP, and building climate resilience across vulnerable ecosystems and communities. Key frameworks include the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC), the Environment Protection Act 1986, and the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme notified in 2023.
