Development context

The facts that shape the opportunity.

Expansion and timing

The Ministry of Defence announced a second Shakti engine production line at HAL Koraput on 6 October 2026, with ₹218 crore investment and capacity for up to 100 engines annually. Commercial and operating implications.

Commercial implications

An aero-engine line creates a demanding supplier opportunity around repeatability, documentation and dependable delivery. A technology or manufacturing partner should demonstrate where it can contribute to the intended production system and how that capability will be qualified. The announced capacity is a future target, not present output.

Participation and execution

TLGS analysis identifies precision manufacturing, tooling, process control, testing and maintenance support as possible engagement areas. Equipment and component opportunities should be traced to HAL’s actual procurement decisions. The separate delivery of Koraput’s 2,000th aero-engine does not mean that the new Shakti line has already reached full production.
