Mining, metals, and critical minerals form the backbone of India's industrial and energy transition economy, supplying inputs for steel, electronics, defence, and clean energy sectors. The Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Steel jointly oversee policy, supported by GSI, IBM, and MECL for exploration and resource assessment. Current policy direction focuses on auction-led transparency, critical mineral security through domestic exploration and overseas acquisitions, and reducing import dependence for battery and semiconductor supply chains.
