UK–India CETA: preference planning after entry into force

UK guidance published on 4 September 2026 records that CETA entered into force on 15 July 2026. It also sets India’s graduation from the UK’s DCTS for 15 July 2028.

TLGS commercial assessment

Exporters should make a product-level comparison of preference routes and origin evidence during the transition. The existence of an FTA does not mean every product is immediately duty-free or that a shipment can claim preference without documentation.

Client priorities

• Confirm the tariff line, origin rule, exporter evidence and transition route for the actual shipment.
• Assess landed cost and market-entry conditions with the importer and authorised customs advisors.
